Yosemite National Park - June 2006
Yosemite is a spectacular place from the bottom looking up and truly awe inspiring when at the top looking down. Who would have thought that I would be able to hike 5 miles with a 35 pound pack from the valley floor to Little Yosemite valley and then just a day later to continue the trek on up to the top of half dome? Not I said the red head!! The day hike from Little Yosemite Valley to the top of Half Dome was a great day. The weather was perfect, we made it to the cables by 10:30 - 11am so there were no crowds. There was snow still at the top - but it was warm and sunny. It was a great hike - and I made it to the top!!
The whole trip was done in stages. Drive up to Yosemite - spent a night in the tent cabins in Curry Village. The next day we hiked to Little Yosemite Valley with our packs and then setup camp. The next day we rested up, filtered water from the river for drinking and cooking, relaxed, and enjoyed the views. The next day we did our day hike to Half Dome. It took us just over three hours to make it to the top. Then we just hung out and enjoyed the snow capped mountains in all directions. Not sure how long the trek down was as I lost track of time. We were back in camp by mid after noon and napping in the warm sun. The next day we hiked back down to Curry Village with our packs and spend another night in the tents cabins. Then the drive home. It was good trip over all. We also got to have fun driving our Mini on the curvy roads!
So that is our trek. Pictures are up in the gallery section - Enjoy.
