Oahu Hawaii
Those that live in California really are spoiled. Not only do we have mild wonderful weather year round, we can hop on a plane and in a mere 5 hours find ourselves in Paradise, aka Hawaii. Paul and I spent the last week of September on Oahu, not the largest island, but probably the most populated with Honolulu and Waikiki. Honolulu is like any other city with tall buildings, busy streets, and lot's of traffic - only it is all located on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, right on the beach. Can't complain about the traffic when you can sit and watch the waves rolling in.
I think the highlight of our trip was our Scuba dives on Friday off of the western shore of the island. As luck would have it our underwater camera batteries died shortly after getting in the water - so we only got a couple of pictures. You will just have to trust me when I say we saw a few turtles, a couple of eels, a small eagle ray, three Octopi, and hundreds of reef fish. I even got to hold one of the octopus - or at least have it hold on to me! It was all very spectacular. The water was clear (could see 100 feet in all directions) and warm (77 dregrees). Since our dives were shallow we were under the water for nearly 2 hours between the two dives.
While Paul attended a conference the first part of the week I walked to the top of Diamond Head, and explored the eastern shore of the island. I walked along the beaches. I also relaxed and did some shopping. The last few days of our trip we got to spend together along the North Shore of the island. Being away from the congestion and noise of Waikiki means we could actually fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves, and enjoy a much slower passed day. All in all a good week.
Pictures are up for your viewing pleasure.
